Did they suggest resetting the settings on the iPad? You want to try to restore the iPod settings to the iPad anyway (correct ?) so if you reset the iPad settings that might help. When you reset all settings, you return the device settings back to factory defaults. You will not lose any data, apps, music.... Anything like that. But you have to enter all of the device preferences in the settings app again.
If you want to try this .... On the iPad go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. Then try to restore from the backup again.
