If you don't have very many purchases through that original apple ID then in your situation just create a new apple id.
Did you have a rescue email set up? If so you can go to appleid.apple.com and log in, and have your security questions/answered reset through that rescue email and you can do that yourself without contacing apple support...without a rescue email set up previously you'd have to contact Apple!
If you can't do any of the above options then you'll have to create a new apple ID.
