Will the ipad work in Germany?

My boss is scheduled for a trip to Germany later this month. He does have 3G capability on his ipad, but has not signed up for the data plan (with extra fee each month).  He will be staying at a Hilton in Germany and per their website, it states that they have wireless internet.  Does anyone know if the ipad will work in Germany and if he will be able to connect to their wireless? Is there any special details that I would need to let him know ahead of time?  Thank you.
