why do i have to continually input my password in iTunes?

Whenever I try to log into the iTunes store, or simply open up iTunes on my laptop, I spend most of my time continually putting in my iTunes password.  I'm getting more and more frustrated with this problem that I have tried to avoid syncing my iOS devices to iTunes because it won't accept my password which, by the way, it never says it's wrong it just won't accept it; the login popup always appears.  OH!! and while if I'm lucky enough to get iTunes to allow my password after multiple times inputting, it is trying to update my apps but it doesn't allow the updates because they are "incompatible"?? I'm so confused.
