You need to use -some- force to eject the card as it's not spring loaded as you may be expecting. It's a friction design and you need to overcome the friction that holds the SIM card tray in place. For the iPad 2,3 & 4, you also need to push the tool it in at a 45 degree angle...see the following (scroll down to the iPad section):
