My Apple TV automatically turns off my Airport Express speaker out when streaming from iPad

I've had 2 older Airport Express' (block style) bite the dust recently because of a power surge. Both of the older Airport Express' worked fine when streaming movies from my iPad to Apple TV 2 and using the speaker out from the Aiport Express. I purchased a new Airport Express, but have not been able to get the speaker out to work with my apple TV when streaming movies from my iPad. Unfortunately, this was the whole reason I was using the Airport Express. Does anyone know of a solution?

All devices are current in firmware and software.

Hi there,

I am currently working on an iPad App that is relying heavily on ambience sound, so i would like to optimize (mix) the audio to sound better out of the iPads (small) speakers.

In order to do this i would like to know the hardware specifications of the iPad speakers, anyone have a clue where these can be found?
